Increasing requirements for control software tests
ISG-dirigent automates tests of simulation models and control software (PLC, CNC)
As digitalisation continues to make inroads in manufacturing and production, the scope and complexity of control software increases, resulting in an ever-increasing amount of effort required for testing. In the past, testing was carried out only by hand but now this is no longer cost-efficient.
The automated testing of simulation models permits the automation, quality assurance and verification of a wide range of criteria for individual model parts (component and assembly models, TwinStore packages) or even complete machine and plant models.
The automated testing of control software tests response both in normal and irregular operation scenarios, which as a rule are much larger in number.
Some highlights:
- Extensive repertoire of model block libraries for frequently used control systems; they can be easily supplemented or extended as required.
- The intuitive graphical modelling of the test blocks makes it simple to learn and requires no special programming knowledge: Right from the start, users can concentrate on developing the test sequences and the test blocks required for them.
- Test blocks can be used in different development phases and replicate the modularity of machines and plants.
The benefits of test automation
- Systematic fault diagnosis and (certifiable) documentation based on reproducible test execution with detailed logging of results.
- Frequently repeated test sequences can also be carried out at any time outside normal working hours.
- Increased reliability and robustness of the control software and therefore the quality of the entire machine or system.
- Time and cost savings as the scope and complexity of control software increases.
Test cases, test plan and audit-compliant test report
Even during test case development, tests can be stopped, modified and continued . It is also possible to carry out a step-by-step processing of tests. Breakpoints can also be set to check intermediate states during the test process.
Single test cases can be combined into test plans which are then simply started by one click.
All executed blocks are logged in the run log together with their status and their input and output data.
The test report generated at the end of each test run lists the status of each test step and additional information, as required. This provides you with audit-compliant test documentation for further processing.
- Adjustable level of detail and transparent display of results.
- Highlighting for immediate traceability of negative test cases
- Display of error location with the associated parameters.
Getting started with test automation
From first contact to technology partner
ISG is your partner when it comes to introducing innovative technologies in your company. Through our experience from many successful projects, we would be delighted to support you in planning your first steps with test automation..
We offer two workshop formats for introducing the software to your company:
The basic workshop "Overview and introduction to ISG-dirigent and test automation” is an initial introduction to the topic of test automation. The half-day training identifies potential applications of test automation in your company.
We recommend our 2-day implementation workshopas the best start for introducing the software. Our experience shows that the joint implementation of a concrete test automation system leads to a significant reduction in implementation costs. The implementation workshop is therefore based on your specific reference project.
Depending on your requirements, we can also provide you with support by taking over sub-projects during the implementation of your test projects, or by taking them over completely in our project planning and application support. Just contact us.
Twin, PLC and CNC licenses
The basic tool of ISG-dirigent is modular and offers many elements for the fast and efficient automation of your test cases.
Depending on the custom requirements for control and simulation technology, ISG-dirigent supplements the basic tool with additional libraries to permit connection to various controllers and to the digital twin based on ISG-virtuos. They can then be influenced and controlled.
The blocks required for this are added by drag and drop to the graphic modelling editor and linked to form test scenarios. Individual test steps can be combined to form new blocks, which in turn can be used to build custom function libraries .
ISG-dirigent is available in three different license packages:
- ISG-dirigent Twin: For testing your simulation models in ISG-virtuos, e.g. component and assembly models, TwinStore packages.
- ISG-dirigent PLC: For testing PLC control software, e.g. from Siemens, Beckhoff and 3S.
- ISG-dirigent CNC: For testing CNC control software, e.g. from Siemens, Beckhoff and 3S.
